“5 Basic Steps to a Sparkling Pool”
All of these steps are well within the reach of the average Pool Owner
1. Water Level
Keep the pool water at the proper level, which is half way up the skimmer opening. This is usually half way up at the tile line as well.
2. Water Analysis
Test your pool water at least one time per week. An easy way to do this is with inexpensive test strips, such as AquaChek.
3. Chemicals
Chemically adjust and treat the water
Keep the chlorine level between 1- 3ppm. Keep chlorine tabs in the floating or inline chlorinator, or use another chlorination method, such as a Salt Chlorination System.
“Shock” the pool weekly with granular chlorine shock in the warmer months.
Adjust total alkalinity as needed
Adjust ph as needed
Adjust stabilizer as needed
Adjust Calcium as needed
4. Filtration-Backwash and or Clean the filter
The general rule for DE or Sand filters is to backwash when the filter pressure reaches 10psi above the “normal” or clean pressure.
Recharge with the proper amount of DE if DE filter.
Cartridge filters should be cleaned as needed, based on the pressure increase.
DE Filters should be cleaned at least one time annually, or every six months depending upon local conditions
Run the main pump 8-12 hours per day in the warmer months.
5. Clean The Pool
Basic Pool Cleaning Steps are:
Skim the surface and net large debris from the bottom of the pool
Brush as needed
Vacuum
Empty skimmer and pump baskets
Clean the tile as needed
Sweep or hose off the pool deck to prevent debris from entering pool
